WOYWW 206

So this is my first time going WOYWW.  I don't know why I've never done it before as I've seen so many of you all taking part but anyway today's the day and I'm jumping in!!

So, here's my desk.

Having nosed at some of the other desks, I'm a bit nervous as some people have scarily tidy desks or ones covered in heaps of lovely papers and scissors which still look great.

Oh Dear!
Mine doesn't fall into either of those categories - oh dear!  You can't see it in this photo (so here it is on the left in all it's glory!) but I have covered my desk with a sheet of old lining paper as I am so messy.  This lets me scribble notes on it and also not worry about over spraying my inks and paints.  I should confess at this point that I've only starting to do this now that my white desk underneath is no longer white so guilt led me to trying to mitigate the problem.  Ever heard of the saying "shutting the door after the horse has bolted?" Oops!

So this week I am continuing on my Art Journal journey and embracing drawing. The workshop I did with Kate Crane  got me thinking about not being afraid to draw and I then watched a great video on u-tube by Vivian Sung Soon Keh.  I loved art at school and I really want to get back to drawing and painting and my journal is a great place for this.

This page is not yet complete and ready to show (hence I've left it partly covered) as something is not quite right.  Am I the only one who gets a project 95% done and find the last 5% the hardest?  I don't want to spoil it but know I have to be brave and add more.  I am experimenting with some old papers for this page ... have to see whether that is what's needed or else it back for a re-think!!

I have been using my gelatos and watercolour pencils on this project and also on another that's ready for my DT slot next week and I am really enjoying myself.

Have a great week everyone and thanks for stopping by my desk!

xx

  1. Your desk looks fun! Mine is mostly so covered that you can't see anything more of the table top, shame on me! Have fun with your journaling! Hugs, Valerie

  3. Hi Alexa - Welcome to WOYWW. Your Art Journal page looks fab to me. As for your desk......I always marvel at the white craft rooms I see. I love them to look at but......My work surface is dark and it hides a multitude of sins ;-) Great idea to cover up with paper - it is turning into a piece of art! Hugs to you from Helen 88

  4. I think your desk looks great! I tidied mine for this post (as this is also my first WOYWW too), but usually my desk is 'organised chaos' as I like to call it.

  6. Welcome to WOYWW!! Always makes Wednesdays more fun. LOVE your journal page!! I tend to have multi layers to work on for the same reasons as you.....LOL PLUS a roll of paper towels when splattering and STILL manage to get ink, paint or what ever where it doesn't belong!!

  7. You are not the only one who finds it difficult to complete a project Alexa, I usually find I have to put it to one side and try several more things another day or days even before I am happy. Your desk looks great.

  12. Welcome to WOYWW! And I have totally had that happen on projects...in fact, I started a wall hanging sort of thing a few months ago, got it 90% or so done and you guessed it, it's still waiting to be completed! :) And your desk looks fab, like you've got it pretty well organized but still have been having fun playing. And covering it with white paper is a fantastic idea! I am always scrounging for a scrap piece of paper to doodle on and the only thing at hand is designer paper that I don't want to mess up so that idea would work so great for me...stealing it! lol :) Thanks for stopping by my desk already and leaving me a comment. 14. Welcome! I continue to be inspired by all the work desks I come across in the weekly postings. There is no right or wrong way in having a crafty workspace - just the fact that we have a space to get as messy or neat as we desire is the key!

  15. You look like you've got a very creative space there - I love the hexagonal box with all your bits and bobs in (I could do with one of those!), and your sketch book page looks fabulous - I love all that red! I also like the marks on your lining paper - I often cut up my scrap, with all it's bits of spray paint and left over stencil marks etc and use it in collage.
Thanks for stopping by my blog, and I hope you have a great week.

  19. Hi Alexa, welcome to the world of WOYWW. Your desk looks absolutely fine to me and those pencils are fab - serious pencil envy going on here now :) I have a craft mat on my desk to protect it though really there is no need - it was bought second-hand and had already been artistically christened with poster paints and crayons, no doubt by some cute kids somewhere :)) Hope you are having a great weekend.
